How to get a guy to hold your hand?

I'm pretty sure this guy likes me. He walked me to class, talks to me a lot, we text often (like till 1:30 in the morning), he smiles at me all of the time, he glances at me, he suddenly talks to my friends, and he's more shy around me in person. The signs are all pretty much there, but he hasn't exactly said he likes me. On the 4th our town has the fireworks, so i want to see if he wants to go with me. My friend who is close friends with both of us may meet up with us for a little. She wants to tell him to hold my hand that night because it would be amazing to hold hands and watch the fireworks, you know? Should she tell him to do that? He may not on his own because I haven't told him I like him, but it's pretty obvious i think. Should I just grab his hand? I'm shy so I really want him to. THANKS!
