Help approaching a hot life guard.?

i was at the beach with some friends and there was a hot guy there. we kept glancing at each other and he kept walking over to me. i wanted to say hi but i didn't i regretted not talking to him when we left the beach but we are going back thursday. if hes there what should i do? i want him to talk to me first but i don't want to leave without talking to him this time.
